Living through times of change
Interviewed in 1984 as part of a school’s oral history project, the late Joe and Margie Short talk about their memories of Blanchland in the earlier part of the 20th Century.
In their youth, horses transported people and goods to and from Blanchland; the Shorts remember how they felt when the first cars, buses and motorbikes began to appear.
Together the Shorts’ lives spanned a time of enormous change; but as tenants of the Lord Crewe Estate, many of the old ways stayed the same…
