Medieval Glass Conservation

Experts from York Glaziers Trust have been working in the Abbey recently to carefully remove the medieval glass panels from the east window so they can be have conservation work carried out.

Being able to see them so close has revealed details we were not able to see before.

The glaziers have taken the sections of the whole window in which the stained glass sections were set. They have been temporarily replaced with Perspex.

The medieval panels have been taken to York Glaziers Trust where the stained glass will be carefully separated from the plain glazing

We’re looking forward to them returning to the Abbey and seeing them in their full glory.
