D-Day 80 Anniversary Commemorations

On 6th June 1944, Allied Forces launched ‘Operation Overlord’ – code name for the massive Allied invasion of Normandy in France during the Second World War.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Join us at the War Memorial at Blanchland Abbey at 6pm for a short remembrance service, followed by the ringing of the church bell at 6.30pm, when bells across the nation will be rung.

We will then go across to the Village Hall for an informal chat about the 6As of Blanchland events – the bar will be open and a hog roast van outside, so grab yourself a drink and something to eat too.

A short quiz will be on sale at the bar for £1, all proceeds to Help for Heroes.

Finally at 9.15pm we’ll head over to the recreation field where the bonfire beacon will be lit in remembrance to those involved in the D-Day landings, as beacons are lit across the nation at the same time.
